How to Use Rose Water

Because rose water is gentle, you can use it as often as you need to. Here are some easy ways to incorporate it into your natural skin care routine:

  • Use a rose water face mist or essence throughout the day whenever you need a burst of hydration.

  • Mix a few drops of rose water into a clay mask and apply it once or twice a week for a deep, purifying cleanse.

  • After washing your face, drench a cotton pad with rose water and sweep it across your face to tone.

  • Apply rose water in its pure form before layering on serums, moisturizer and/or sunscreen to lock in the benefits.

  • Use rose water as a mild astringent to soothe razor burn after shaving.

  • Spritz your face with rose water before applying your favorite sheet mask to boost the hydration effects.

  • Spray your face with rose water on hot days for a quick cooldown.

What to Look for in Rose Water

Pure rose water is free from artificial colors or dyes and thus transparent. Try looking for it at a health food store or natural grocer. You can also search for rose water online, but make sure the ingredient label lists organic roses and no added fragrances or alcohol, as these additives could irritate your skin and worsen existing skin conditions.

Rose water is an incredible multipurpose ingredient that deserves a place in your skin care routine. Plain rose water does the job, but it's also helpful when added to cleansers, serums, moisturizers and more. Just remember that no matter what formula you try, rose water takes time to work—some dermatologists say that it can take 3-4 weeks of continuous use to see the benefits.
